Hello, Glow Girls and Boys!
Lately, when I’ve been wandering in my local drugstore/grocery store, I have been noticing more and more collagen supplement-type products popping up. Sometimes they are in the vitamin aisle and sometimes I see them in the beauty/skincare aisles. Initially, I ignored the powders, gel caps and gummies thinking casually to myself, “…..some sort of scam….”
BUT THEN………I was on the phone with a long time Cellular Skin RX Glow Girl and she mentioned that she had been taking collagen supplements and thought that they had actually made a difference in her skin. Since Glow Girls and Boys are generally no-nonsense, facts-based consumers, I was intrigued.
I immediately did a PubMed search to find out if there was any clinical published research on collagen having a significant effect on the skin. And lo and behold, indeed there WAS.
YES, VIRGINIA, COLLAGEN SUPPLEMENTS DO HAVE A BENEFICIAL EFFECT ON WRINKLES.
Frankly, I was surprised. But facts are facts, Glow people! Don’t believe me? Here are links to the latest research indicating that YES, you should add a collagen supplement to your anti-aging toolkit. (The results were not insignificant. One study showed a 20% decrease in eye wrinkles specifically.)
Nutrients. 2019 Oct; 11(10): 2494. Published online 2019 Oct 17. doi: 10.3390/nu11102494
“….Objective dermatological measurements, such as cutometry and corneometry, have proven that oral collagen peptides together with other dermonutrients significantly improve skin hydration, elasticity, roughness, and density after three months of intake. These tests thus verify the results obtained in previous trials. Moreover, and in line with the objective measurements, the study participants, in their subjective assessments, concluded that their skin appearance had significantly improved. “
Here’s another one:
Nutrients. 2018 Jul; 10(7): 826 Published online 2018 Jun 26. doi: 10.3390/nu10070826
“….Our results demonstrated that oral intake of LMWCP (1000 mg once daily for 12 weeks) efficiently improved the health of photoaged skin in a cohort of women aged 40–60 years, by significantly improving skin hydration as early as after 6 weeks of intake, and skin wrinkling and elasticity after 12 weeks of intake. ”
And here’s one more just in case you’re still skeptical (you know who you are 🙂 )
Believe me now? I knew you would!
I know your next question is which ones should I take when there are so many different choices out there. Well, I did the reading for you so here are the general things to look for when you’re reading the ingredient labels.

DON’T FORGET TO EAT WELL, TOO.
If you’re wondering what foods to eat to help with your anti-aging challenges, here’s a quick list. Pick these up at the store along with your favorite collagen supplement!
Salmon ( or any fatty fish filled with Omega-3-6-9)
Soy Isoflavones (soy sauce, tofu, edamame, also available as an oral supplement)
Orange and Red fruits and veggies for their high vitamin A and C content (oranges, red and orange bell peppers, sweet potatoes, papaya, pineapple, tomatoes, mangoes, pomegranate, carrots, etc.) And don’t forget the avocados.
Blueberries (super high in anthocyanins that have various anti-aging benefits)
Greens – ( especially watercress – what a powerhouse!, broccoli, spinach)
And finally drink your green tea during the day and a glass of red wine at night.

Hi Patricia,
Does Cellular RX make any supplements?
Hi, Linda! No, we do not. Would you be interested in seeing us add that to our product line? I think we will put out a questionnaire and find out how much interest there is. Meanwhile, the brands recommended in the blog are readily available in a slew of stores.
Dear Patricia YES I would because then I would absolutely know I was buying the best on the market. NO QUESTION about that.
I have ordered the reserveage brand.
As always THANK YOU from across the pond.

Excellent, Linda! I can’t wait to hear what you think.
